Summer by Design: Light, Texture & Coastal-Inspired Living
As summer arrives, our homes naturally shift toward a lighter, more relaxed way of living. One of my favorite ways to refresh a space for the season is through thoughtful layers of light, texture, and subtle coastal-inspired elements that feel timeless rather than overly themed.
Natural light plays an important role in creating an airy summer atmosphere. Swapping heavier window treatments for sheer drapery panels and maximizing sunlight can instantly make a space feel brighter and more inviting throughout the day. Even small adjustments such as rearranging furniture to improve flow or incorporating mirrors to reflect natural light can help a room feel more open, airy, and connected to the season.
Texture is what gives a summer interior warmth and depth. During the warmer months, I love incorporating woven materials such as linen and jute, along with ceramic and stone accents to create a relaxed and layered feel. Small updates such as woven trays, bowls of fresh fruit, or lightweight summer textiles can instantly make a space feel more inviting and seasonally refreshed.
For a coastal-inspired summer refresh, small seasonal updates can make a significant impact without fully redesigning a space. I love incorporating seashells or coral in decorative bowls or on shelves, and introducing soft blue or sandy neutral accent pillows for the season. Coastal photography, ocean-inspired artwork, and natural greenery can also help create a fresh, relaxed summer atmosphere while maintaining a timeless and elevated feel.
Summer interiors should ultimately feel fresh, breathable, and welcoming. Through thoughtful lighting, layered texture, and understated coastal influence, a home can feel beautifully connected to the season while remaining timeless year-round.
